Position Summary

The Director of Foundation Relations is responsible for leading and expanding YWCA USA's grant portfolio, securing financial resources to support the organization's mission and programs. This individual will develop and maintain strong relationships with foundations, corporations, and government agencies, while strategizing and implementing best practices for grant writing and reporting.

Accountabilities

Grant Writing and Management

  • Research, identify, and cultivate new funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies to support YWCA USA's mission and programs.
  • Prepare high-quality, compelling, and timely grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports to secure funding and maintain strong relationships with funders.
  • Monitor and track grant progress, ensuring timely submission of reports and other required documentation to maintain compliance with grant requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather relevant information and data for proposals and reports, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

Relationship Building and Stewardship

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with current and potential funders, ensuring regular and effective communication.
  • Represent YWCA USA at meetings, conferences, and other events to engage with funders and advance the organization's mission.
  • Work closely with the development team to integrate foundation relations strategies into the overall fundraising plan.
  • Collaborate with local associations to share best practices and resources in foundation relations and grant writing.

Strategy and Capacity Building

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive foundation relations strategy to increase YWCA USA's grant portfolio and support organizational growth.
  • Monitor trends in foundation giving and adapt strategies to optimize funding opportunities.
  • Provide training and support to local associations in grant writing, reporting, and relationship management to build capacity across the YWCA network.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to align foundation relations goals with the organization's strategic plan and ensure long-term sustainability.

Requirements

You will be successful in this role if you possess the following experience and core competencies

  • Experiences
    • Minimum of 5 - 8 years of experience in grant writing and foundation relations
    • Proven track record of securing grants from foundations, corporations, and government agencies
    • Experience in leading and expanding an organization's grant portfolio
    • Knowledge of best practices for grant writing and reporting
    • Proven track record in securing financial resources through grant writing and cultivating relationships with funders.

    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
    • Strong research and analytical skills to identify new funding opportunities and evaluate grant strategies

    • Experience collaborating with diverse teams to achieve shared goals
    • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
    • Proficiency in using donor databases and grant management software
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and environments

Nice to have

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Communications, Nonprofit Management, or Social Sciences) is also an advantage.

  • YWCA USA is a remote first office environment; you will collaborate with colleagues who are based across the United States. You should be prepared to either work from home or a location of your choosing.
  • Occasional travel for meetings, events, or site visits may be required (dependent on the nature of the position and organization).
  • Ability to attend events.
  • Availability to work Monday through Friday during core hours and occasionally on nights and weekends as needed.
  • The role may require long periods of sitting and using a computer and may also involve some light physical tasks, such as printing, filing, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and via phone.
  • This role is required to provide proof of COVID vaccination.

Compensation and Benefits

In order to counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, salaries are non-negotiable for new and current employees. YWCA USA salary bands for a given staff level are benchmarked to the 75th percentile for our sector, and all new employees are paid at the entry point of those bands. Employees then have the opportunity to progress through current salary bands through annual cost of living increases and performance-based pay increases, and into new salary bands through promotions.
