Job Summary:

IPEX is seeking for a Welder Fabricator to join their team on the day shift. The Welder fabricates all types of standard and custom products based on product specifications. Unloads, receives, and stores materials and supplies for steel fabrication shop. Disperses materials as required. Completes Mig, Tig, Spot. Performs inventory duties and maintains organization of the shop floor and its contents.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Follow company policy and procedures including all, health, safety, & environmental requirements
  • Plan and layout work assignments based upon reading and interpreting complex blueprints, drawings, sketches, or verbal instruction and accomplish these assignments.
  • Responsible for operating various pieces of equipment safely and in accordance to educational training, inhouse training, equipment instructional manuals, supervisory direction.
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices to position components and parts during fabrication of production orders.
  • Operate safely forklift, walkie-reach and electric/manual pump trucks.
  • Confirms Bill of materials (BOM) prior to commencing shop work order.
  • Weld various materials (Stainless & Carbon steel)adhering to accurate procedures, identifying different welding techniques (specifically MIG, TIG, Spot), as well as testing the integrity of the weld.
  • Fabricate all types of pressurized and non-pressurized types of steel couplings/ piping systems that follow accurate quality control procedures, including inspections for adherence to standards.
  • Receives stock inventory into the warehouse, including offloading trucks, and preparing packaging for outbound deliveries and accurately completes receivers to get them added to perpetual inventory.
  • Responsible for safe usage, handling, and storage of hazardous materials.
  • Responsible for changeovers required for machine setups. Including Inspection equipment for safe operation prior to use.
  • Sustain housekeeping around the work area, and maintain 5s.
  • Report immediately any safety, environmental, &/or health issues & any production, inventory & or quality issues.
  • Performs necessary administrative functions related to the position.
  • Will be required to function in other capacities as directed by the direct supervisor. Health, safety and environmentally responsibilities and accountabilities
  • Follows Health and Safety rules and work procedures established by IPEX Inc. in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Policy.
  • Conducts Pre-Use Inspections ensuring checklists are accurately completed.
  • Immediately reports any unsafe condition identified during the inspection.
  • Immediately reports any accidents, incidents, hazardous conditions.
  • Reports damage to racking or unstable racks. Efficiently participate in internal and external safety training programs
  • Perform other duties as required.

COMPLEXITY & JUDGEMENT

  • Regularly encounters problems which involve multiple choice options; but through prior exposure, experience and established procedures/policies can resolve the most appropriate course of action.
  • Work involves both routine and non-routine tasks within well-defined standards. CONTACTS
  • Interacts daily with the Site Supervisor.

Works with other employees on the shop floor, including the lead hand. In addition, and on occasion with inner sales, engineering, & innovation, Health & Safety, Plant Manager, Maintenance, Quality Control personnel, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbent spends almost 100% of their time in a plant environment requiring varying degrees of considerable physical labor. Lifting, pulling, pushing heavy objects, standing, walking, and driving cover most work. Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, dust, noise levels and the use of equipment such as sharp blades and presses. Moderate amount of sensory attention is required. Limited control of work pace and unpredictable workflow brings moderate stresses to this position.

The incumbent understands, respects, and adheres to the workplace Health & Safety rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Certified Welder is preferred but not required.
  • Must be fluent in TIG and MIG processes.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous training and experience with walkies and cranes would be an asset
  • Good English interpersonal skills both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety practices is necessary.
  • Math skills are a must: trigonometry, geometry, fractions, conversions.
  • Ability to distinguish between different types of materials.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints & drawings.
  • Knowledgeable on all powered and manual equipment and tools.
  • Must be able to read and understand basic measuring tools.
