The role is definitely primarily creative focused with some technical skills in specifically HTML, CSS and some JavaScript. In the technical world HTML and CSS are fairly "basic" and not considered full programming languages. So this role would not be a full-on developer. While the technical skills are not used as much as the creative skills, they still need to be at least at a certain level. The technical skills will be used to make the site more mobile friendly and accessible for disabled users. If those things are improved, the SEO ranking should also benefit. The creative aspects will mostly be designing layouts and designs for features that we add to the site. I also want them to take control of the banners we make as they would hopefully have more skill than me to improve them.
Overview
We are looking for a web designer to join the Ecommerce team. You will be involved in creating and maintaining content across our ecommerce platforms and online sales channels.
As a web designer you will work closely with the creative team to transform their ideas into web best practices; focusing on accessibility, SEO, and modern, semantic HTML.
Your duties will include taking requirements, creating mock-ups, and designing layouts while balancing the usability, visual appeal, and technical feasibility of the designs. You will also have the opportunity to plan and execute projects, as well as improve the overall quality of the website.
Responsibilities
Create wireframes or mockups for web pages and applications
Design layouts for mobile, tablet, and desktop devices
Design graphics, icons, and logos in line with company branding policy
Work with developers to implement visual elements of websites
Research and evaluate new design trends
Establish and maintain design standards and best practices
Edit content, debug code and re-design web pages
Testing website features and functionality
Qualifications
Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Bachelor's degree in design or a related field
Experience as a graphic designer or in a related field
Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio
Proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, XD
Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical ideas to non-technical team members
A strong eye for visual design and composition
Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines
Understanding of marketing, production, website design, corporate identity, and multimedia design
