NexGen Data Systems is seeking a WAN Engineer with experience supporting in-service systems for the world wide Defense Health Agency (DHA) network. WAN Engineers ensure continued operation and maintenance of a system with managed risk. Technical surveillance of critical safety items, approved sources for these items, and the oversight of the design configuration baselines are also part of the sustaining engineering effort. Periodic technical review of the in-service system performance against baseline requirements, analysis of trends, and development of management options and resource requirements for resolution of operational issues should be part of the sustaining effort. This team consists of a combination of System Engineering and management strategies to achieve the desired sustainment metrics. 


 

This includes:




  • Root cause analysis of in-service problems (including operational hazards, deficiency reports, parts obsolescence, corrosion effects, and reliability degradation)

  • The development of required design changes to resolve operational issues

  • Other activities necessary to ensure cost-effective support to achieve peacetime and wartime readiness and performance requirements over a system’s life-cycle



 



Roles and Responsibilities:




  • Work in a team setting making recommendations related to troubleshooting, device configuration, and documentation.

  • Resolve issues in a timely manner dealing with a variety of different network devices and protocols following applicable reporting formats

  • Perform requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of system, subsystem or system elements with minimal supervision of the lead systems engineer

  • Perform technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements

  • Perform detailed technical analyses for a system, subsystem or system elements

  • Develop and evaluates systems, networks and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable governmental security specifications

  • May develop system security documentation on both new and fielded information systems

  • Develop solutions to meet customer expectations and technical performance while staying within schedule and cost constraints

  • Research, design, and develop systems, in conjunction with software and hardware product development, applying principles and techniques of systems engineering, modeling and simulation and analysis

  • Guide the successful completion of major programs and projects

  • Plan and executes significant project tasks for activities described above

  • Define processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility

  • Determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel

  • Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

  • Use professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways

  • Identify, analyze and resolve system design weaknesses


 

Requirements



 



Required/Desired Skills:




  • 2-3+ years relevant experience in supporting software products to IT organizations.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related discipline is preferred but not required.

  • A strong working knowledge with Routers, Switches, Firewalls, and Virtual Private Network devices.

  • A good understanding of TCP/IP in regards to routing and subnetting

  • A good understanding of local and wide area networking and be able to troubleshoot network issues with limited direction (IPv6 and LISP experience desired but not required)

  • Must be a team player that can work under pressure with good written and oral communication skills

  • Must be able to train others on various computer software and hardware

  • Must have an active DoD SSBI/Top Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain and hold a DoD Top Secret Clearance

  • Must meet DoD 8570 requirement



Experience with the following Network protocols and services:




  • Routing Protocols (OSPF, BGP)

  • IPSec/SSL VPNs

  • Packet Analysis

  • Access Control Lists

  • QoS

  • GET VPN

  • LISP

  • MPLS



Experience with the following a plus:




  • Cisco Router 3845

  • Cisco Router 7206VXR

  • Cisco Router 7300

  • Cisco Router ASR 1002

  • Cisco Router ASR 1006


 

Other requirements:




  • CompTIA Security+CE Certification

  • A strong sense of urgency including self-governance on task priority

  • Must meet the requirements to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance, as well as all required security certifications and trainings

  • Travel as required
