Cuberg, a Northvolt company, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Process R&D Manager, Battery Cell to join their team in Silicon Valley. Cuberg is revolutionizing the battery industry by commercializing lithium metal battery technology, offering higher energy density and power output to power the future of electric mobility. As the Advanced Technology Center of Northvolt, Cuberg is building an innovation ecosystem around lithium-ion technology and leveraging Northvolt's state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities to rapidly scale up production of advanced batteries. The Senior Process R&D Manager, Battery Cell will be responsible for leading the process design and optimization of battery cell manufacturing, driving innovation and efficiency to scale up production and improve battery performance.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and optimization of battery cell manufacturing processes, including electrode coating, cell assembly, and testing, to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Develop and implement innovative approaches to scale up production of lithium metal batteries, leveraging existing lithium-ion manufacturing infrastructure to accelerate time-to-market.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including research and development, engineering, and operations, to support battery cell production and improve product quality.
  • Manage a team of process engineers and technicians, providing mentorship and guidance to drive innovation and efficiency in battery cell manufacturing.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external vendors and equipment suppliers to identify new technologies and capabilities to improve battery manufacturing processes.
  • Support the development and implementation of quality control programs, ensuring products meet customer requirements and industry standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to battery cell manufacturing processes, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in battery manufacturing process development, with expertise in electrode coating, cell assembly, and testing.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Proven track record of process optimization and innovation, delivering improvements to efficiency and productivity.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, with knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.

The San Francisco / Bay Area base salary range for this full-time position is $180K - $250K + equity + benefits.
