  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served; must be able to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patients need; must demonstrate a knowledge of growth and development and an understanding of the range of treatments needed by these patients to include infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Administers contrast media as ordered.
  • Positions patient on examining table and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician.
  • Moves x-ray equipment into specified position and adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time, distance, voltage and current.
  • Practices established radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
  • Select proper film and insert into holder or improvise method to assure appropriate set-up.
  • Repeat exposure procedure from various angles as directed.
  • Operates mobile x-ray equipment in operating room, emergency room, or at patients bedside. Completes procedures promptly and accurately, observing sterile technique.
  • Process images and prepare them for reading by Radiologist using the following techniques
    • Place order in PACS/ Hospital System
    • Select appropriate exam off of modality work list
    • Runs CR cassette and make appropriate modifications on the computer.
    • Deliver images to PACS via DICOM send.
  • Verifies and documents temperature of contrast media incubator during the daily CT warm- up and calibrations. At this time also checks the cart in CT and documents verification of inventory and the security tab on the cart.
  • Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table, using supportive devices to obtain precise patient position and following protocols specified by Radiologist.
  • dministers contrast media or assists Physician in administration.
  • Enters data such as type of scan requested, slice thickness, scan time, and other technical data into computer.
  • Talks to patient over intercom system and observes patient through window of control room to monitor patient safety and comfort.
  • Views images of organs or tissue on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures. Starts camera to produce radiographs.
  • Evaluates radiographs, compact disks, and computer generated information for technical quality.
  • Assures that all tasks performed are in compliance with related state and federal guidelines, rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Associates degree (A A) in Radiologic Technology from two- year college or technical school;
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year related experience and/ or training preferred; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be a Certified Radiologic Technologist.
  • Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or eligible.
  • CPR certification.
