The ATEC Rad Tech uses his/her technical and clinical experience and expertise in operating medical imaging equipment to acquire, process, and catalog radiographic scans in a cadaveric lab environment in support of ATECs ground-breaking research and development initiatives toward better-informed spine surgery. The Rad Tech role includes coordination and execution of all radiographic imaging done on site, using a variety of imaging platform technologies including fluororadiography, dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), EOS biplanar slot-scanning radiography, and computed tomography (CT). The function assumes ownership of imaging equipment operation and maintenance, and protocol and policy development and implementation. Opportunities are extended to contribute to the scientific work of the team through anatomical and technical expertise.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs x-ray, DEXA, and CT imaging of human cadavers: Coordinates with ATEC Medical Education Lab Technicians to identify and image specimens that are used for surgical training by surgeon customer trainees
  • Collaborates with members of ATECs Research and Development teams to understand project requirements and designs imaging protocols that support project plans
  • Catalogs, shares, and archives imaging output consistent with project objectives
  • Is responsible for the proper use, calibration, maintenance, service, sourcing and ordering of ATECs medical imaging equipment
  • Drafts and maintains compliance to operational protocols and policies related to use of ATECs medical imaging equipment
  • Trains others in the proper use of ATECs medical imaging equipment
  • Reads, assesses, and annotates radiographic imaging to provide research outputs including identification/marking of anatomical landmarks and image file meta-data
  • Manipulates imaging software and image files to deliver outputs to collaborators in relevant formats and file storage structures
  • Participates actively in imaging database creation for Research and R&D activities
  • Maintains the pace to support daily specimen scanning volumes expected
  • Documents and communicates findings and feedback on activities, tools and processes with cross-functional collaborators and departmental management
  • Performs other duties as required

  • Has strong working knowledge of computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, Internet applications, etc.).
  • Has excellent knowledge in medical imaging and anatomy.
  • Experience in 3D modeling and segmentation techniques is a plus.
  • Is persistent, meticulous, autonomous, and rigorous.
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills.

Education and Experience

  • Completion of a JRCERT-accredited Radiologic Technology program preferred.
  • Certification, degree, and/or experience working in a hospital, or outpatient/clinical setting using multiple radiographic platforms including plain x-ray, DEXA, CT.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registered
  • Current California Medical Xray Operators License preferred

Salary Range

Alphatec Spine, Inc. complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidates qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $29 to $38 Full-Time Hourly Range
