Fishing vessel experience and basic computer and Microsoft Excel skills required.Essential Duties Record detailed fresh fish and finished product related data and log data using Microsoft Excel Report data daily via email to on board vessel officers and shore-based offices Analyze and discuss data findings real time with on board factory foreman, officers, other OHara vessels, and shore-based offices Train crew members on all QC procedures to cover during QEMs off shift Calibrate scales Observe and record factory related activities pertaining to quality and efficiency Work in the factory and occasional sampling/QC related work on trawl deck HAACP paperwork (reviewed by HACCP certified person) In town errands during offload such as spare part runs, crew airport runs, crew clinic runs, other errands Accurately Document Electronic Logbook NMFS Reporting Daily Production End of Voyage/ contract extension paperwork at offloads Offload paperwork Help Dockside offloads (tally when needed) Ship store paperwork Other duties and projects as required Work SchedulePurser/Quality Control managers are work at least 16.5 hours per day, 7 days per week. Work hours may be extended during offload or backload which may result in uneven shifts and sleep patterns.Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, employees may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, moving machinery, trawl gear and various species of fish. Pursers may also be exposed to wet, humid, and freezing conditions, high, precarious places, vibration and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Pursers work onboard a vessel in the ocean which by nature produces varying degrees of motion onboard. Pursers are expected to wear storm weather clothing, survival suit, mustang suit, and use as required life preservers, skiff, life rafts, SCBA, fire extinguishing equipment, first aid equipment, hardhat, noise suppression devices and safety goggles. Materials, Tools, Equipment and Work AidsFish processing equipment such as headers, movable and stationary conveyor systems, knives, hoists, pressure washers, cleaning chemicals, shovels, buckets, baskets and aluminum pans, and office equipment such as computers.RequirementsEducation, Experience Catcher processor experience. USCG Medical Emergency response training. USCG Drill Instructor training. HACCP Certified is preferred Valid drivers license Previous work on Bering Sea heading and gutting/Amendment 80 fishing vessels highly preferred Physical Demands All employees must be able to: Board and exit the vessel by gangplank or Jacobs ladder without assistance. Board or exit a skiff without assistance in all weather conditions. Ascend and descend steep stairways and ladders in all temperatures. Work at least 16 hours per day, 7 days per week for the duration of the contract. Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time. Stand and walk; lift weights up to and over 50 pounds for full range from floor to above their head repeatedly. Use fingers, hands and arms to push, pull and reach. Bend and twist. Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Work long hours in all kinds of weather. Work in a cold and wet environment. Don life jacket, life vest and/or survival suit without assistance. Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug tests per USCG regulations. Mental Activities All employees must be able to: Hear, understand, and follow instructions, directions, safety rules and procedures in English Use interpersonal and teamwork skills. Live and work with others in close quarters. Be away from medical care and supervision for 3+ months at a time. Share crew quarters, bathroom facilities, and common dining areas with other crew members. Discern between various shades of color for reading navigational equipment, charts, identifying and sorting various fish species as well as for safety signs, alarms and warnings. (Additional at-sea store available for specialty items to purchase and have deducted from paycheck) OHara will book and pre-pay flight and lodging from Point of Hire- Seattle, WA to Dutch Harbor, AK. *Candidates that do not complete the 75-day contract will have a portion of this expense payroll deducted.
