Enhanced optoelectronic performance of semiconductor nanocrystal-based devices requires a greater understanding of their nonradiative pathways. Nanocrystal surfaces are known to be dynamic, with mobile ligand interactions and excited-state local atomistic rearrangements leading to transient trap states and providing loss pathways in optoelectronic devices. Directly quantifying transient structural changes in nanocrystals with time-resolved structural techniques is needed to provide new knowledge of the origins of nonradiative pathways to enable higher performance. The candidate will use a combined suite of photophysical measurements to measure and analyze transient disorder in nanocrystal systems as a function of NC structure, NC chemistry, and ligand chemistry.

This is considered full time, benefits eligible, hourly position. This position is term-limited grant funded position from 9/1/2022 through 8/31/2025. The starting salary range for this position is $46,000 to $57,500 per year.

Position Prerequisites:

The candidate should hold a PhD in physical chemistry, physics, materials science or a related field and have experience with time-resolved spectroscopy and/or X-ray Scattering experiments. This project is housed in the Cotts Lab at Middlebury College with theoretical simulation support from the Ma group at the University of Vermont. Options for remote work at Argonne National Lab near Chicago, IL. Our primary approach uses time-resolved structural spectroscopy at national user facilities supported by other photophysical approaches. Applicants should include a CV (including a list of publications) and contact information for three references. Initial appointment is for one year with a possibility of an extension for up to three years assuming ongoing grant support from US Dept. of Energy.
