The Marketing Intern position offers an experiential learning opportunity for a talented student (or recent graduate) interested in contributing to integrated marketing efforts. This internship will provide experience with campaign development, social media, digital platforms, copywriting, public relations, and measurement. Note: Applications can be submitted until Dec 31, 2023.

Specifics

The Marketing Intern will collaborate with PRXs Marketing team to develop and launch integrated campaigns for podcasts and internal marketing initiatives. The intern may also measure the effectiveness of digital and podcast campaigns and present recommendations. This position will be exposed to the inner-workings of the digital, creative, and audience engagement marketing teams and may collaborate with teams throughout the organization on various projects including Resource Development, Training, Station Services, and others.

Projects will include:

  • Maintaining social media calendar
  • Copywriting and content creation for new and existing podcasts, including assisting with setting up social media campaigns
  • Sourcing assets, creating audiograms and conducting research
  • Leading a multi-platform social media campaign and assisting with a social media advertising campaign
  • Pulling campaign performance data (via Metrics - an in-house podcast system) and across social media platforms
  • Basic design needs for audiograms and other content; work in Headliner and Canva or similar software
  • Basic website updates using SquareSpace
  • Organize files
  • Updating calendars
  • Basic research
  • Help set up interviews for podcast creators
  • Conduct interviews with other teams within PRX to understand the podcast ecosystem better

Definition of Success

By the end of the internship, the marketing intern will have:

  • Developed or expanded a portfolio of work
  • Increased knowledge and use of social media platforms
  • Developed/expanded data analytic skills
  • Developed/improved brainstorming skills
  • Developed strong, working relationships with the marketing team and other key departments within PRX
  • Identified the challenges and rewards of the experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance of PRX owned and operated Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts using Sprout platform management system by: Creating and sharing social media content for PRX and/or Radiotopia, Engaging on social media from PRX and/or Radiotopia, Supporting the creation and distribution of social media kits
  • Measuring and reporting on the effectiveness of podcast and internal marketing campaigns
  • Assisting in the brainstorming and development of promotional campaigns
  • Helping to drive new ideas for social strategy (FB, Twitter, Instagram, and more)
  • Assist in the collection and organization of digital assets for each show
  • Assist with feed submissions to 3rd party platforms
  • Assist with research, communications to set-up cross promotions with other podcasts, and reporting of final results
  • Research press, bloggers, and influencers for us to follow and reach out to
  • Assisting in the set up of paid media like Google Ads, Facebook ads, Twitter ads, etc.
  • Copywriting and editing
  • Assist with project management of event planning and production of marketing materials

Requirements

Education & Experience

This is a part-time, non-exempt, temporary, paid internship. The ideal candidate will be available to work up to 15 hours a week, within one semester, or for at least a 3 month period. PRX will also offer academic credit if requested.

Need to Have

  • Strong interest in learning about and developing skills in marketing for audio including broadcasting and podcasting
  • Fluency with social media including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Solid and reliable internet access
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to transform complex information into concise and compelling copy
  • Big picture orientation
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Familiarity and comfort working with Zoom
  • Ability to work independently but can also follow the protocol of how things are done
  • Attention to detail
  • Previous internship/work-study/work experience
  • Solid writing/editing skills
  • Ability to give and accept feedback in a constructive manner

Nice to Have

  • Major in communications, marketing, public relations or media studies (any major is welcome to apply!)
  • Understanding TikTok, Discord, and Pinterest
  • Press Experience
  • Understanding of paid media
  • Familiarity with basic video editing programs such as Descript
  • Design skills/experience, including Photoshop
  • Email marketing service knowledge like Campaign Monitor
  • Regular consumption of public media content (radio, podcasting, or streaming)
  • Solid understanding of Excel or Google Sheets
  • Experience with website development/management including Squarespace
  • Examples/portfolio of previous internship work
  • Experience within the podcasting sphere

Benefits

This is a paid internship with a rate of $15 per hour.
