WWC Global is seeking an experienced coalition builder and event organizer with international democracy, human rights, and governance experience to serve as Network for Gender Inclusive Democracy Coordinator for USAIDs Center for Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG Center).

The United States Government (USG) launched the Presidential Initiative for Democratic Renewal (PIDR) at the first Summit for Democracy in 2021. PIDR represents a significant, targeted expansion of USG efforts to defend, sustain, and grow democratic resilience with likeminded governmental and non-governmental partners. It includes five, mutually reinforcing lines of effort: Supporting Free and Independent Media; Fighting Corruption; Bolstering Democratic Reformers; Advancing Technology for Democracy; and Defending Free and Fair Elections and Political Processes.

PIDR includes a focus on fostering the agency of women and girls, including those from underserved and marginalized groups, as a force for democratic and peaceful change through the Advancing Womens and Girls Civic and Political Leadership Initiative (Womens Leadership Initiative). This initiative aims to strengthen women-led organizations and address systemic barriers to womens meaningful participation and representation in decision-making processes. This includes combating violence against women in politics and public life, both on and offline, in line with the Global Partnership for Action on Gender-Based Online Harassment and Abuse.

To implement this initiative, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) invited partners to collaborate in advancing an ecosystem approach that addresses barriers at the institutional, sociocultural, and individual levels. Through the ecosystem approach, USAID and our partners will align our efforts to build a pipeline of civic-minded and/or politically-interested women and girls, while simultaneously working to create a favorable environment to facilitate their participation, representation, leadership, and agency in peace processes, political settlements, post-conflict transitions, and democratic governance.

To this end, USAID is launching a Network for Gender Inclusive Democracy (Network) composed of governmental and intergovernmental partners, civil society, private sector, and academic leaders who are committed to promoting gender equality and inclusive democracy. This new Network will provide strategic direction and a platform to increase coordination, knowledge management, and advocacy at both the multilateral and country levels. Network partners will work together to amplify and advocate for gender-inclusive democracy, catalyze and align resources, and increase the production and sharing of research and learning on efforts to advance democratic resilience through womens civic and political leadership. The Networks efforts will be developed in alignment with other existing initiatives seeking to advance womens civic and political leadership.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with the PIDR Womens Leadership Initiative team to organize and conduct a series of online and potentially in-person consultations and engagements among key womens and girls civic and political empowerment stakeholders, including select international development agencies, intergovernmental organizations, international NGOs, and global networks, among others. These engagements will build on existing efforts to co-create the initial governance structure, strategy, and priorities for the Network.
  • Identifying best practices around network governance to inform how the Network makes decisions, sets goals, and manages the day-to-day affairs of the group. This will include desk research and consulting other networks, donor, and partner coordination mechanisms.
  • Synthesizing the findings of this research and consultations in a report and presentation to the PIDR Womens Leadership Initiative team and the Network.

  • Leading planning of virtual/hybrid/in-person learning events and meetings, managing the implementation and operational aspects, including liaising with vendors, drafting participant lists and invitations and tracking RSVPs, and selecting the tech platform for online meetings or venues.
  • Liaising with moderators and speakers on their roles and participation in the engagements.
  • Supporting the PIDR Womens Leadership Initiative team to develop or refine timelines, work plans, and monitoring and evaluation plans to implement the Womens Leadership Initiative and tracking milestones and collecting data as needed.
  • Carrying out other duties related to supporting the Network for Gender Inclusive Democracy and Womens Leadership Initiative, as assigned.
