Performs a wide variety of patient care activities and support services under the supervision of a registered nurse.

• Nurse must be able to demonstrate competency in all procedures within scope of practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served; must be able to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patients needs.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families and members of the health care team.
• Willingly/readily accepts delegated tasks within scope of practice.
• Ensures that all nursing interventions and patient responses are communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated and that all required components of the nursing process are documented in accordance with standards of practice.
• Maintains effective utilization of manpower, equipment, and supplies.
• Performs patient care in accordance with nursing standards of care, quality assurance criteria, and policy and procedure guidelines.
• Maintains composure under stress and utilizes resources to copy with stressful situations.
• Accepts temporary reassignment to another area or work function for which the employee has the necessary skills.
• Monitors the hospital experience from the perspective of the individual patient and functions as a patient advocate.
• Effectively communicates with patients, families and members of the nursing team in accordance with standards of practice.
• Treats the patient and their family with respect and dignity while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
• Assures that all tasks performed are in compliance with related state and federal guidelines, rules and regulations.
• Answers patient call bell system in a prompt manner and speaks in a calm and courteous voice.
• Documents in patient record appropriately.
• Reviews patient care plans daily and charts accordingly.
• Provide interventions as plan of care deems necessary.
• Actively participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
• Abides by Yoakum Community Hospital policies and procedures as set forth in the Employee Handbook.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of Vocational Nursing.
• Licensed by the Texas Board of Licensed Vocational Nurse Examiners.
• Minimum of one (1) year LVN experience.
• Current CPR certification.
