What Youll Be Doing:

We are looking for an in-house IP Counsel (Portfolio Manager) to join our Innovation team. Reporting to the VP of Innovation, you will work with technical, business, and cross-functional teams to develop and identify strategic and high-value intellectual properties.

  • Lead IP portfolio management including IP strategy, protection, patent drafting and prosecution, and invention harvesting
  • Assess and advise on IP risks and opportunities in complex transactions
  • Closely work with engineers and scientists in catalysis, fuel, combustion, chemical, mechanical, and electrical engineering
  • Supervise and manage outside counsels in patent and IP matters in global jurisdictions
  • Lead IP due diligence, freedom-to-operate, patentability, validity, landscape, and competition analysis
  • Implement IP program and policies in a cross-functional team environment, and provide general legal support
  • Provide training to promote awareness of IP and its implications on various functions within the company
  • Develop a deep knowledge of R&D, product development, and business activities in the context of business intelligence, competitor activities, industry trends, best practices, laws, and regulations affecting IP

Requirements

The minimum requirements we seek:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admitted to U.S. State Bar and Patent Bar
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering or related field
  • Strong technical or engineering background with expertise in energy, chemical, and mechanical arts
  • 5+ years of experience in the relevant field, including 3+ years of a law firm patent experience and providing legal support on intellectual property matters for startups and corporates
  • Experienced with litigation, enforcement, risk evaluation, and IP diligence
  • Able to work in a fast-paced and changing environment


The salary pay range for this position is $152,000 to $175,000. The salary pay range is applicable to positions physically based in New York City. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, job experience and physical location.
