Summary/Objective

The primary responsibility of this position is the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment. The heavy equipment operator operates a variety of contractor equipment and trucks used in construction, maintenance and repair activities and performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the performance of construction projects. For this project, the operator needs are:




  • Dozers

  • Excavators

  • Skid Steers

  • Loaders (such as backhoe, crawler, wheel)

  • Dump Trucks



Essential Functions




  • Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.

  • Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as backhoe, dump truck, loader, excavators, and skid steers.

  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.

  • Comply with all company and site-specific policies and procedures.

  • Safe and efficient operation of equipment to meet production targets.

  • Performs routine inspections, safety walk-arounds, and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment.

  • Maintain equipment in good operating condition, reporting and logging maintenance requirements or concerns.

  • Complete required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation as required.

  • May perform other related duties as assigned.



Qualifications




  • At least two (2) years of experience operating heavy equipment.

  • Knowledge of safe and productive operation of equipment, including but not limited to Caterpillar, Komatsu, Bobcat, etc.

  • Must be able to climb in and out of equipment unassisted.

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

  • Must be willing and able to travel to other project sites throughout the Southeastern U.S. as needed.

  • Ability to have a flexible work schedule, including working overtime and weekends as needed.

  • Must pass a background check, drug screen, and have a clean driving record to be considered for employment.

Supervisory Responsibility



This position has supervision responsibilities.





Work Environment



While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.





Physical Demands



The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.





While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell.





The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.



 



Pay



Starting pay 18$ - 25$

Pay based on skill and qualifications.



 



Travel



Local travel to various work sites is required. 





Required Education and Experience




  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.

  • Two years’ experience involving the use of medium and heavy equipment, two of which must have been related to excavating a construction site.

     



Preferred Education and Experience




  • Bilingual Spanish and English

  • OSHA training (current)

  • Read plans such as site plans, Topo maps, etc.

  • Familiarity with and usage of site grading instruments



 



Additional Eligibility Qualifications




  • Valid CDL License.

  • Three (3) references required.
