We are currently seeking a Full-Time HVAC Technician II who will adhere to the aforementioned mission statement, and who will perform routine repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems including air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital controls, hot and chilled water distribution, and variable volume systems. Independently employs specially designed software and remote computer links to monitor systems and trouble shoot malfunctions.

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Associate Degree

EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Four (4) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

  • Required:
    • Current and clear Texas drivers license with a 3-year safe driving record.
    • Journeyman level experience and EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification.
    • Must maintain certification status.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform trouble shooting and repair of building distribution systems including low pressure steam distribution, heat exchangers, hot and cold deck systems, air handlers, and pneumatic and digital controls.
  • Complete HVAC system replacement work in conjunction with central energy management and control system operators.
  • Participate in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.
  • Ensure proper care in the use of maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Monitor and adjust system set points and output using remote computer links to the buildings programmable logic controls.
  • Execute seasonal overhauls and instructs repair teams in transition of systems from heating to cooling and vice versa.
  • Carry out HVAC system inspections and manufacturer recommended preventative maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  • Ability to repair and/or replace building mechanical systems components.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as team member.
  • Knowledge of HVAC installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC and associated systems employing computer-based monitoring and control devices.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment, plumbing utilities, distribution systems, and controls, including maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of refrigerant recovery.
  • Communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Knowledge of college and department policies and procedures, safety rules and regulations.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and campuses. Considerable amount of physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling required of objects 5lbs. Physical work is primary (more than 70%) of the job.
