SUMMARY

The Finance Director is accountable for driving performance of the business along with the business leadership team. He/ She is constantly pushing and assisting the business to achieve results, while identifying upside and risks by understanding the big picture and details and proactively initiates action.

POSITION SCOPE


The role:

Act as a business partner to own/ drive non-financial business projects and activities critical to the business.
Act as a strong partner to the country leader to help define the critical financial needs of the business.
Stay attuned to the market, industry and economic environment and translate external and internal complexity to relevant opportunity or risk facing the business.
Ensure that the business is able to leverage the full capabilities of the corporation (finance, IT, HR, legal etc.) and that the business priorities are met through these functions.
Possess high integrity, creativity and commands authority.
Actively keep stakeholders engaged and informed of critical activities and issues (CEO, CFO, ExCom, leadership and others).
Effectively deal with ambiguity and take action to move forward in the face of the unknown.
Possess a commanding presence and is sought out by the business to weigh in and help with financial and non-financial activities.
As a critical member of the business and corporate leader, bring alignment between the actions of the business and the strategy/ values of the corporation. This means always wearing both hats communicating, deciding, executing in a way that is consistent with the needs of the business and the entire group, ensuring the business also behaves in this way.
Ensure alignment between the business, FP&A, controllership, investors relations and corporate strategy to ensure the full cycle of performance management is effective and efficient.
Demonstrate and understand that decisions need to be made in timely manner and all analysis and data may not be available. Able to follow instincts and act and know when more information or input of others is needed for certain decisions.


We will count on you to:

Partner directly with the CEO of MMC Japan and support business leaders in the various Marsh & Mercer business segments. The role is that of a trusted corporate and commercial finance leader that can help the FP&A team provide strategic business partnering and enable the business to drive exceptional financial outcomes.
Oversee the team of finance business partners to deliver to corporate deadlines including consolidating and presenting information to stakeholders in a timely manner.
Manage all aspects of reporting, planning and resourcing for key upcoming activities in order to deliver seamless and expected financial outcomes with few errors and minimal rework.
Provide insightful financial information on a timely basis and consistently highlight opportunities and risks with actions to facilitate expected financial performance.
Hold the business accountable but equally enable the business to deliver in accordance with corporate expectations.
Help the business identify priorities, make timely decisions and focus efforts on the important few actions that make the biggest impact.
Lead the budgeting/ financial planning/ month end analysis activities, allowing adequate time for the business, corporate and CEO review.
Partner with controllership and operations to improve key processes to make the finance ecosystem as well as the business environment easier to navigate.
Actively keep stakeholders engaged and aware of critical activities and issues.


What you need to have:

University graduate with a recognized degree in subjects such as finance, accounting, business or related disciplines. Qualified or equivalent professional qualifications (Chartered Accountant/ CPA/ ACCA/ CIMA etc.) is preferred.
At least 10+ years of experience in a finance role within a global, highly matrixed organisation. Relevant professional and management experience at senior level within sizable organizations.
Solid corporate experience, especially coming from a B2B environment. Prior experience working in a financial/ insurance broking/ advisory firm is highly desirable.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact in a team environment with all levels of employees including senior management. Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to connect effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proven ability to influence across the business and serve as a strategic soundboard to senior management.
Commercially astute and able to work with the business on deriving leads to drive business growth and development.
Strong analytical and technical skills for forecasting and budgeting. Ability to articulate complex and technical information in layman and concise ways through written and verbal communication.
An inspiring and innovative leader who has managed and mentored a team before.
Disciplined and can work autonomously to drive the right business outcomes in a timely manner.
Detail-oriented and comfortable with a fast-paced environment.
Excellent command of written and spoken English and Japanese.
Good command on MS Office applications (MS-Excel, MS-Word, Outlook). Strong IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
