About North Park

Duties and Responsibilities

The School of Music, Art, and Theatre at North Park University is a supportive community of creative and diverse voices. We seek to guide and encourage students on the journey towards a sustainable creative practice, increase awareness of civic responsibility, and promote a culture of compassion through the intersection of faith and learning.

The School of Music, Art, and Theatre seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track (Open Rank) of Music position starting August 2024. The successful candidate has an innovative vision for teaching and performance that embraces the specific needs and opportunities of future student generations.

The position offers considerable flexibility depending on the candidates expertise and vision. The successful candidate will teach, supervise, and further develop undergraduate and graduate curriculum in core musicianship, composition, music history, and music technology. They would provide leadership in part-time faculty hiring and assessment with specific emphasis on the opportunities provided by the City of Chicago. A strong instrumental performance background with an emphasis on piano performance and pedagogy is desired.

Required:

  • Strong artistic and collaborative leadership skills
  • Experience and vision using and developing innovative pedagogies in music
  • A clear aesthetic position that informs dynamic teaching
  • A strong and intentional network and music community connections
  • Committed to connecting with and supporting diverse students
  • Doctorate or PhD
  • A clear understanding and personal commitment to North Park Universitys mission of Christian higher education
  • Demonstrated care for all people in the campus community

Desired:

  • Continuous investment in music and pedagogy related research
  • An awareness of current artistic, social, political, and educational challenges
  • Fluency in Spanish or another language in addition to English
  • Ability to work independently and with others, and to be proactive
  • Experience with Learning Management tools
  • Comfortable with using new technology
