EEG technologist I - Clinton Township, MI
Contract Assisnments: 6 + months
Job Type: Part Time
Working Hours Schedules: Hours will be part time (20 hr per week), will work 5 days every two weeks,variable days, does include weekends every third weekend
Job Summary:
- EEG technologist I is an entry level position in the Neurophysiology Department.
- The tech will maintain patient safety while the patient is being monitored in the EMU (epilepsy monitoring unit) or while undergoing an 8 hour VEEG.
- The tech is responsible for ensuring electrode integrity, visually watching and tracking (via camera) epilepsy patients (2-8 patients) via monitors.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have 6 months of EEG experience and patient care environment.
- Formal EEG training is preferred.
Education:
- High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Enrollment in or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) accredited Electrodiagnostic (END) program, is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
- Current BLS certification
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Applies scalp and additional electrodes as required by utilizing appropriate EEG established system; comply with applicable standards. Obtains patient medical history to include neurologic symptomatology and medications; advise patient and family members on administered test procedures.
- Performs digital EEG recordings.
- Monitors and adjusts equipment to ensure optimal recordings; assess and document EEG recordings.
- Participates in review of long term video EEG monitoring to include monitoring, documenting and other related recorded items for physician review.
- Implements basic infection control procedures to ensure compliance.
- Assures equipment and instruments are sanitized and working properly; reports equipment problems.
- Enters various data into computer; verifies data, makes corrections and ensures accuracy; maintains a variety of computerized and/or manual logs.
- Prepares log entries as required; prepares, presents and disseminates information to professional individuals, groups and organizations.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops.
- Must practice the customer skills as provided through on-going training and in-services.
- Must possess the following personal qualities:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures.
- Long periods of sitting and standing.
- Will be required to cover a variation in regularly assigned shifts when necessary
- Will be required to cover shifts at any of the sites: Main, WB, Taylor and Troy when necessary.
