The Position

Our bank client is seeking to fill a Credit Underwriter role in the Los Angeles, CA area. The successful candidate will be responsible for originating quality credit packages with appropriate commentary, financial analysis, and recommendations while ensuring compliance with regulations, policies, and internal procedures.

The position offers a generous salary of up to $90K and a full benefits package. (This is not a remote position).

Credit Underwriter responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing, risk-assessing credit applications and preparing loan presentation packages for commercial, SBA, and USDA loans.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Banks credit risk management strategy, the Banks credit policy, SBAs SOP, and USDAs Guarantee Loan Making policy by performing the following duties.
  • Assisting Closers in gathering necessary documents required for closing but not required for underwriting.
  • Consulting with Loan Officer and prospects/clients to validate new / renewal loan requests.
  • Pre-Qualifying the credit request (preliminary) or escalate to Supervisor.
  • Organizing documentation for credit analysis and approval.
  • Identifying discrepancies and inconsistencies and effectively explaining.
  • Ensuring accurate (compliant) completion of Commitment Letter Formal SBA Loan Application, preparing SBA Authorization, and pulling PLP or ETRAN score (as appropriate).
  • Assisting loan underwriting supervisors with new hires by acting as a mentor.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by management.

  • Bachelors Degree (AA) from a four-year college or university and two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of lending operations and closing procedures.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts to apply math concepts.
  • Willingness to learn new tasks and approaches for accomplishing assignments.
  • Computer skills required: High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
