Title: Content Editor
Location: Milwaukee, WI
Hybrid Position

Job Overview

  • Works with leadership to set and maintain editorial standards that bolster brand voice and support a unified communication style across the global business.
  • Responsible for maintenance of the client's Style Book and Terminology Guide, leading the communication of updates to the writing team, as well as the rest of the Marketing Communications team.
  • Serves as a key resource on correct style, grammar and strong writing for the larger MarComm team, as well as the global business.
  • Exemplifies the client brand and guides others in the appropriate application of our brand in all forms of writing, which can include: short-form, creative copy (such as advertising), long-form video scripts and journalistic, research-based pieces.
  • Responsible for editing and proofing written content to ensure it meets all standards and delivers an exemplary quality of writing.
  • "Manages coordination with trade publications for both editorial and advertising opportunities.
  • Keeps track of annual editorial calendars and informs Marketing Managers on opportunities to participate in articles that leverage the expertise of their business unit(s) and coordinating fulfillment of publication's needs.
  • Serves as editor of materials to be submitted to publications.
  • Coordinates advertising program that includes domestic North America and global publications, working with Marketing Managers to secure ad placements and coordinate ad materials that bring to life our marketing strategies leveraging annual budget.
  • Collaborates with Creative ad lead, writers and others to make sure content is developed and deadlines are met.
  • Ad program includes a wide variety of content types: from traditional print ads to sponsored content, webinars, radio ads, digital engagements and even billboards.
  • Responsibilities here include serving as a point of contact for ad representatives and supporting reports out of ad buy effectiveness."
  • Key Job Responsibilities

    • Oversees copy development, serving as the primary reviewer of written materials to ensure proper grammar, spelling and brand voice.
    • Work includes editing and coaching others on enhancing their writing to align to brand standards and maximize SEO
    • Manages the written needs of a wide variety of internal and external channels, including, but not limited to company websites, intranet sites, social media channels, sales tools, case studies, white papers, published articles, presentations, advertising, technical materials and blogs
    • Supports content development, that writers are meeting deadlines and required content is going through any needed business, safety and/or legal review
    • Drives the development of creative, informative content that exemplifies the client brand and brings our company's story to life, as well as sales and marketing materials that help meet campaign objectives while exemplifying our brand
    • Leverages metrics and trends to support the informed development of improved writing standards, content development and continually improve the work product
    • Leads partnerships with external partners that create content for clients, ensuring they are trained on and meeting client brand and style guidelines
    • Partners with the social media team to ensure posts align with brand standards, as well as aligning with advertising schedules
    • Works with business team members as needed, to verify needs, information and data: Responsible for fact-checking
    • Helps identify target audiences and plan media campaigns, as well as compares and negotiates rates and ad space with media, while managing the ad budget
    • Leads coordination of ad planning and content development, serving as the project manager for the team

    Qualifications/Requirements

    Experience

    • 5-7 years of experience writing, editing, producing content in a corporate environment, preferably for a major brand
    • 5-7 years of experience in marketing and/or corporate communications and/or marketing agency
    • Experience creating multi-faceted campaigns (traditional marketing materials, sales tools, ads, social posts, videos, web pages, blogs, editorials, articles, e-blasts, podcasts, etc.) and repurposing content for multiple channels.
    • Understands how to bring a campaign to life across multiple channels: externally through social media, blogs, paid digital and print advertising, editorials, etc.; Internally through intranets, social channels, leadership meetings, print, surveys, etc.
    • Understands SEO strategies, how to research for SEO, how to write with SEO in mind and how to track the success of content through SEO management
    • Experience teaching and coaching others
    • Successful experience leading through influence
    • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally as well as interface with executive leadership teams

    Technical skills

    • Highly, highly organized. Thrives on deadlines personally and able to patiently, and skillfully move a team of peers towards deadlines.
    • Loves, loves, loves collaboration, getting everyone's input and incorporating feedback for an optimal result.
    • Is a wiz in Excel, able to whip up complex spreadsheets to track just about anything.
    • Dreams about data, like a closeted quant; fluent in PowerBI (or wants to be) and is able to visually present data in a way that tells a compelling story.
    • A borderline expert in PowerPoint and a confident presenter.
    • Able to communicate "up, down and sideways" in an organization.
    • Able to create visually impressive and convincing 'decks' for various audiences.
    • Natural expert in the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
    • Understand that AP Style is the only style.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in a communications-related field
    • Not only able to juggle multiple projects, demands and deadlines at once, but finds prioritization a source of pride and ownership
    • Comfortable working with global teams. No other language speaking is required but must have experience working with non-native English speakers and targeting non-native English-speaking audiences.
    • Creative thinker; excited to research, try and teach new things
    • Proactive communicator; displays confidence when speaking aloud and in writing
