Summary of Work

The Office of State Tax Commissioner is seeking a communications manager to manage internal and external communication and marketing efforts in support of the agency's mission. The successful candidate must possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills, have demonstrated experience in developing media strategies that promote a positive public image, and excel in both publication and project management.

This person maintains the agency branding, assures consistency of messaging, provides oversight to the forms design process, and prepares presentations for team members. An ability to work independently and expertise and familiarity with desktop publishing, media relations, social media and web maintenance are strong assets. Additionally, the successful candidate will supervise a communications administrative assistant who reports directly to the communications manager.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the creation, writing, editing, and/or review of publications, brochures, letters, and articles
  • Oversee media releases sharing agency programs and current events related to the agency
  • Serve as the agency's website CMS expert
  • Develop and direct digital marketing platforms, including edit, review, management, and analytics of the website and intranet
  • Maintain contacts with local and civic organizations, news media, and other interested groups for the interpretation and promotion of agency programs and services
  • Deliver, or assist in the delivery of, presentations as requested by the Commissioner, Deputy, or Supervisor, and guide preparation for staff as needed.
  • Guide content development efforts in all digital platforms to reflect agency branding
  • Collaborate with all divisions to provide communication solutions

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications, public relations, or marketing and three years of related professional work experience; or a bachelor's degree in another field related to the position's program responsibility area and five years of professional work experience related to the position's duties.

Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in:

  • Strong writing skills
  • Software proficiencies
  • Website management
