Position: Career Coach - Contract to Hire
Location: Remote Portland, OR
Wage: $17-$23 per hour
Job Summary
Our client is a local non-profit organization serving the underserved community, BIPOC, LGBTQ and more to train up on career readiness. They are seeking Career Coaches to work contract to hire. S/he will be responsible for helping program participants stay focused and motivated while working on transitioning through their careers and life. The Career Coach will be facilitating a part of the program which tracks participant progress and provides intensive career coaching, with a focus on employment readiness skills.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Career Coaches perform a wide range of duties including some or all of the following:
Direct Coaching Support
- Engaging participants in ongoing discussions about their employment goals
- Using motivational interviewing techniques as appropriate to help guide participants towards goal achievement
- Developing and producing a professional resume for each participant
- Maintaining weekly contact with participants to track their progress towards interview readiness
- Facilitating group sessions and workshops to build employment readiness skills
- Traveling regularly for meetings in and around the Portland Metro area
- Managing a caseload of 5-15 participants
External Outreach
- Building positive relationships with our partners in various settings
- Collaborating with other internal departments to gather information
- Making appropriate referrals for participants when necessary
Administrative Support
- Regularly discussing each participant's job readiness progress with colleagues; problem-solving with colleagues when needed
- Participating in a weekly "Coaching Roundtable" with fellow coaches to discuss opportunities and obstacles
- Reviewing participants' weekly performance
- Maintaining accurate client records and case notes in SimplePractice; Google Docs/Sheets; updating case notes progress notes in Simple Practice during and after each meeting with participants
- Recording and reporting monthly progress summaries for each participant, detailing steps taken to resolve challenges and the quality of overall participant participation
- Performing other tasks and responsibilities as assigned that will be assigned from time to time
- Use of Google Suites and Slack
Required Qualifications and Competencies
- High School Diploma or Degree with a focus in behavioral psychology preferred or relevant on the job experience
- Three years of relevant experience
- Case management experience
- Strong time management and prioritization skills
- Experience providing feedback and guidance to help clients or constituents strengthen their knowledge and skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, SimplePractice, CRM software or case management program, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Dropbox, and other computer and cloud-based programs
- Ability to inspire others to reach a goal and perform to the best of their ability
- Ability to take into account and analyze various points of view and pieces of data to form a perspective appropriate to a particular context
- Ability to identify problems obstacles early on and provide support as needed
Desired Required Equipment
- Desktop computer or laptop with a webcam
Expected Hours: The time commitment for career coaches ranges from 5-20 hours a week depending on caseload. Coaching sessions are about 40 minutes in length and adequate prep and follow-up time for case notes and reporting is provided. We work with our coaches to develop a caseload that matches their capacity.
