Human Resources Assistant (Human Resource Assistant)

This recruitment is for one (1), limited duration, full-time (job rotation available if you are a current state employee) position located in Salem, OR (4190 Aumsville Hwy SE) and is a management service nonsupervisory role, and therefore not represented by a union. We may also fill this position as a rotational assignment open to current State of Oregon employees.

This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies.

Limited duration positions are eligible for benefits with a designated maximum length of service. This position is expected to last through June of 2025. This limited duration position has the potential to become permanent if funding is received.

What you will be doing:

This position provides technical assistance and support to the Human Resources Department by keeping abreast of personnel practices and assisting in the daily technical, procedural, and administrative functions of a personnel program, including developing and maintaining processes for records and technical assistance, recruitment processes, classification processes, background tracking, and personnel policy and procedures.

About DPSST:

The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) oversees the development of professional standards and the delivery of quality training for law enforcement officers, corrections officers, parole and probation officers, firefighters, telecommunicators, and emergency medical dispatchers. DPSST is also the regulatory agency that enforces employment and training standards for the above listed public safety disciplines and licenses proprietary security managers, security contractors and officers, polygraph examiners, and private investigators.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two (2) years of human resources clerical-support experience directly assisting human resources professionals in the administrative functions of a human resources program.

OR

Three (3) years progressively responsible administrative, clerical or record-keeping support experience.

Note: College-level course work may substitute for the general experience requirement based on 45-quarter units per year.

The State Certified Human Resources Professional (SCHRP) certification, awarded by the Oregon Chief Human Resources Office, substitutes for six (6) months of human resource professional-level experience.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook; Ability to work with various computer programs.
  • Experience in making sound well-informed and objective decisions. Has the ability to perceive the impact and implication of decisions made within the scope of work.
  • Preference may be given to individuals who have experience working with and applying a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
