The Human Resource Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing and processing employee payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This role involves a combination of administrative, analytical, and customer service duties to support the HR and finance departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Payroll Processing:

    • Calculate and process employee salaries, wages, and overtime accurately and on time.
    • Verify and update employee data, including hours worked, deductions, and tax information.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
    • Handle payroll adjustments, including bonuses, incentives, and deductions.
  2. Record Keeping and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and organized payroll records.
    • Prepare and submit payroll reports for management and finance purposes.
    • Assist in year-end payroll reporting and tax form generation (e.g., W-2, 1099).
  3. Benefits Administration:

    • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other voluntary benefits.
    • Assist employees with benefit inquiries and changes.
  4. Tax Compliance:

    • Calculate and process payroll taxes, including federal, state, and local taxes.
    • Stay up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations.
  5. Customer Service:

    • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
    • Assist employees with payroll-related documentation and forms.
  6. Data Integrity and Security:

    • Ensure the confidentiality and security of payroll and employee data.
    • Maintain data accuracy and integrity in the HR and payroll systems.
  7. Process Improvements:

    • Identify and recommend process improvements to streamline payroll and HR processes.
    • Assist in the implementation of new payroll and HR software or systems.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
  • Previous experience in payroll processing and HR administration.
  • Knowledge of payroll software and HRIS (Human Resources Information System).
  • Understanding of payroll laws and regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Certifications (Optional):

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR)
  • Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)
