Quality Inspector

Harmony, PA

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7am-3:15pm

Pay: $14.00-$18.00 per hour

UPMC Medical 70% paid, dental and vision available. 401K after 1 year with 100% match up to 3%; 50% match up to 5%. Eight paid holidays plus holiday bonus. Life and Disability Insurance.



Summary: The Inspector maintains quality standards by approving incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products, and recording quality results according to specifications, blueprints, and knowledge of welding and metallurgy. The individual is also responsible for maintaining the work area to facilitate production activities.



Reports to: Welding Team Leader and Assistant Team Leader, Midnight Supervisor (where applicable), and Operations Manager



Job Responsibilities:




  • Adhere to all safety requirements and protocols.

  • Approves incoming materials by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, and rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.

  • Approves in process production/fabrication by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, and rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.

  • Approves finished products by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, returning products for re-work, and confirming re-work.

  • Read work instructions and/or blueprints to confirm that products have been fabricated correctly.

  • Interpret drawings to determine weld symbols.

  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the Team Leader or member of the Management Team.

  • Complete job requirements with minimal supervision.

  • Use conventional and precision measuring instruments.

  • Accurately document inspection results by completing reports and logs, summarizing re-work, non-conforming material, and waste, and recording information in the quality database.

  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Focus on quality and speed, performing all tasks with a sense of urgency toward excellence.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Team Leader and Management Team.





Qualifications:




  • Minimum of a high school diploma/G.E.D.

  • Working knowledge of analyzing information, reporting research results, promoting process improvement, and safety

  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and procedures, CAD, quality engineering, and operations research

  • Forklift Certification required

  • Ability to read blueprints and tape measures

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen

  • One year of experience inspecting in a steel service center





Physical Demands: The physical demands of the position are at a heavy level with occasional to frequent lifting/carrying of 25 to 100 pounds. Job duties are primarily performed from a standing or squatting position. Modification of the job duties is possible depending upon the transitional physical capabilities of the worker. Modified duty can be made for a limited period of time.



Working Conditions: Work is performed inside the plant, but employees are exposed to seasonal and welding temperatures.
