Job Description Job Title: Surgery Technologist Pay Grade: Reports to: Supervisor/Manager Department/Job Code: 6420/6450; 1621/1622 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt OSHA Exposure Level: Job Summary A surgery technician provides assistance in the operating room. These individuals work under the supervision of surgeons, anesthesiologist and nurses. They care for patients during the surgical /procedure. Surgery technicians can work in ambulatory (River View, Pavilion) or the hospital setting (Main OR). The surgery technician plans, implements, evaluates patient care along with other team members. They accept responsibility for collaboration with co-workers in the implementation of care. This position is responsible for providing optimum levels of care as the patient's transition through their stay. All the duties and standards within this job description will be performed according to the established policies and guidelines outlined in the department and Center policy and procedure manuals. These will be measured through surveys, department goals, peer input, expectation and experience. Customer Relations While performing the above, the employee will enhance positive relations with all customers including but not limited to: patients, families, hospital and medical staff. Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance to the established FMC policies, procedures and guidelines. Job Qualifications Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of a surgical technician accredited program required. Attends in-services to maintain professional standards. Licensure & Certifications: CPR certification. Certification (CST) required. Experience: Previous OR experience preferred. Job-related Skills: Good basic clinical skills in delivering of care in an ambulatory and inpatient care facility. Essential Job Functions Job Expectations and Responsibilities: Planning Prepare the operating/procedure room and surgical equipment.Demonstrates collaborative interdepartmental planning in identifying and meeting patient-family centered needs and awareness of the nursing care (link removed)municates with patient and practitioner through pre-operative planning. Implementation Provides care appropriate in a non-judgmental, nondiscriminatory manner that is sensitive to the needs of all ages, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights. Identify age requirements (infant to geriatric) using clinical data and patient needs.Passes tools to surgeons during an operation and helps control equipment such as lights, bovie or suction.Assist with safe transfer of the patient to the operating room table.Assists in positioning patient safely for the procedure to prevent injury or harm.Participates in the physician-led (link removed)itiates appropriate emergency procedures in collaboration with the physician; including BLS.Ensures patient's rights are respected and protects patient privacy by adhering to HIPPA guidelines in the management of all patient information. Physical Capacity DemandHeavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
