DescriptionThe technologist will be expected to perform processing of samples submitted for cytogenetics, karyotype analysis, FISH on paraffin-embedded tissues, and hematological specimens.70% - Perform Karyotype and FISH testing on hematologic malignancies and paraffin-embedded tissue cancer specimens30% - Maintaining quality control logsPercent time is subject to change according to the needs of the laboratoryIn conjunction with the Supervisor, Manager, and Director of RCCA Laboratory Operations, manage the day-to-day operation of the FISH Processing laboratoryOversee, and assign with permission of the Manager, all aspects of the technical processing workflow from accession specimens to QAReceive and sort samples by specimen type for laboratory testingMust be able to monitor all aspects of sample processingAccession and label all paperwork, specimen slides, tubes, and jarsReview all data entry information that appears on the test requisitionEssential Functions: Receive and sort samples by specimen type for laboratory testing. Must be able to monitor all aspects of sample processing. Accession and label all paperwork, specimen slides, tubes, and jars. Review all data entry information that appears on the test requisition. Process medical specimens for molecular FISH testing. Stain, coverslip, collate and book all cases processed. Oversee the maintenance of all technical processing documentation.Monitor equipment and maintenance logs to ensure appropriate record keeping. Ensure FISH lab is adequately stocked with supplies and oversee weekly ordering. Perform monthly inventory checks. Understand all FISH processing SOPs and participate in periodic SOP updates. Troubleshoot technical issues. Good communication skills with all team members and supervisory staff.Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and experience, plus two years of related experience Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, and Federal regulations and recommendations The candidate must be licensed for license eligible to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist/TechnicianRequirementsRequires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training, and experience, plus two years of related experienceThe candidate must be licensed for license eligible to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Technician according to New York State licensure requirementsExperience in Biology laboratory techniquesFISH experience with cancer specimens is requiredMust be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 Shift: 8-5PM Specialty Type: Medical Laboratory Sub Specialties: Cytotechnologist General Certifications: N/A
