Internship Snapshot:

The Quieter Home Program department is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Intern II with a strong passion for community engagement. This individual will gain valuable hands-on experience in customer service and project coordination. The ideal candidate will bring their fresh perspective and ideas to contribute to ongoing projects improving community outreach and program accessibility. They will leverage their strong communication skills to interact with the public, work alongside consultants, and support critical projects that directly impact current and future homeowner participants. This exciting opportunity will allow you to contribute to meaningful initiatives and leave a lasting impact on the community.

What is the Quieter Home Program? The Quieter Home Program (QHP) is San Diego International Airports residential sound insulation program, designed to reduce aircraft noise for eligible homes near the airport by installing soundproofing improvements such as upgraded windows, doors, and ventilation systems.

What Youll Do:

  • Community Engagement & Customer Support: Provide professional and efficient customer service through professional email, phone, and in-person interactions. Engage with the community to improve outreach and accessibility of program resources. Provide clear, accurate, and friendly assistance to homeowners and program participants, guiding them through available resources and addressing concerns.
  • Program Administration & Digital Content: Assist in reviewing and updating content on the current website, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and accessibility for program participants. Support documentation efforts by organizing key project materials and reports.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement: Work closely with staff, consultants, program managers, and other stakeholders to gain a deeper understanding of the programs initiatives and objectives. Maintain open communication with consultants to ensure project requirements and community expectations are met. Participating in team cross-training to enhance collaboration and efficiency. Provide valuable input on the development of a new website design, incorporating user-friendly features and fresh ideas.

  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to operate computer equipment and software applications relevant to the role.
  • Record Management and Reporting: Ability to maintain and organize work-related records, and prepare clear, concise reports using computer tools.
  • Public Engagement and Professionalism: Comfort and professionalism in engaging with the public and interacting with diverse individuals.

Requirements

Ready to Fly? Educational Qualifications for Airport Interns*:

1.Undergraduate students currently enrolled* in at least twelve (12) units at an accredited college may qualify.

2.Students in their final semester or quarter who need less than full-time enrollment to graduate with four (4) year degree need only be enrolled part-time in courses required for undergraduate degree completion.

3.Educational major must be related to area of interest.

Pre-Flight Checklist: SAN Internship Onboarding:

Joining our Summer Internship program at the Airport Authority is an exciting opportunity, and we want to ensure a smooth onboarding process for the selected interns. Before the selected interns receive their boarding passes this summer, please take note of the following pre-conditions that must be fulfilled and approved prior to taking flight in our Summer Internship program:

  • Post-Offer Pre-Employment Medical Examination and Substance Test:

Successful completion of a post-offer pre-employment medical examination and an alcohol/chemical substance test is mandatory.

  • FBI Background Investigation:

A thorough background investigation, including an FBI fingerprint based criminal history records check, of your references and employment/education history from the last 10 years will be conducted. This includes a visit to our Access Control Office inside Terminal 2 in the San Diego International Airport, be camera ready!

  • Proof of Citizenship or Legal Authorization:

Submission of documentation proving citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States is essential, complying with the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
